🎤 RECORDING SESSION TOOLKIT

Vocal recording, pro-grade.

Every feature pro engineers want in a recording session — count-in click, punch-in, comp lane, take ratings, loop recording, session notes — built into StudioMode's DAW.

🎙
Open Studio in recording mode
Mic check, monitor enable, count-in armed by default.
REC — Start session →

🔊 Count-in click preview

Hear what the count-in sounds like before you commit to a take. Same Web Audio scheduler the DAW uses.

In the recording mode

Count-in click
FREE
1, 2, or 4 bars of metronome click before the recording starts so you can lock into the pocket without a stuttering first beat. Click sound + accent matches the metronome tool.
🎯
Punch-in
PRO
Re-record just one bar without erasing the rest of your take. Drop in/out points on the timeline, hit REC, only the punch range gets new audio.
🥞
Comp lane
PRO
Record N takes of the same section into stacked lanes. Cherry-pick the best phrases from each take onto one master comp without leaving the project.
Take ratings
FREE
Rate each take 1-5 stars in the timeline. Sort by rating later to find your best takes when you're comping. Save mental energy for the music.
🔁
Loop recording
PRO
Set a loop region, hit REC, keep recording over and over without stopping. Each pass becomes a new take. Perfect for ad-libs and stacking harmonies.
📝
Session notes
FREE
Drop notes alongside takes — "hook needs energy," "double this," "verse 2 pitch flat." Notes persist with the project so you can come back later and remember what you were thinking.
🎧
Headphones detection
FREE
Warns you if you're trying to record without headphones — the mic will pick up your beat playback and bleed all over the take. Saves bad sessions.
💧
Session reminders
PRO
Hydration nudges every 25 minutes. Vocal rest nudges every 50 minutes. Your voice is a muscle — fatigue ruins takes faster than any plugin can fix them.
🎙
Auto take naming
FREE
Takes get named "Verse 1 - Take 3" automatically based on the song-structure markers you've laid down. No more "untitled_audio_07_final_FINAL.wav".
🎛
Quick mute / solo
FREE
Tap M to mute the beat or S to solo your vocal on the fly during playback. Critical for catching pitch + timing issues that the beat masks.

📚 Pro recording tips

  1. Warm up first. Use the vocal warmup tool for 5-8 minutes before any take. Cold vocals sound thin and pitchy.
  2. Record at the right level. Aim for peaks at -12 to -6 dBFS. Anything hotter and you risk clipping; anything quieter and you'll lose detail when you compress later.
  3. Loop-record ad-libs. The best ad-libs come out when you're not thinking. Loop-record 8-12 passes of the same hook spot and pick the spontaneous gold.
  4. Comp during the session, not after. While you still remember what each take felt like, mark your favorites with the star rating. Coming back days later means re-listening to everything cold.
  5. Watch the spectrum. Open the spectrum analyzer while recording — you'll catch a boomy 200Hz buildup or harsh 3kHz peak before it becomes a mixing problem.
  6. Stay hydrated. Room-temp water between takes. Dehydration shows up as cracking and pitch wobble within 30 minutes.
